We look forward to work closely with the trust and its chairman Shri Pawan Jain (Mangalyatan fame) to ensure success of this project and enhance its scope significantly.

Study Notes version 2 now available online for download by attending scholars. ISJS India has prepared compressive study notes, based on the lectures delivered during the last three summer schools, and covering almost 80 percent of the academic lectures in ISSJS2008. These notes have been prepared by the faculty members and the office of the director of ISJS India. ISJS feels they are a very good source of preparing the scholars prior to serious study of Jain philosophy, history, culture, art and way of life. We encourage students and scholars attending ISSJS2008 to download these and study prior to their arrival to ISSJS2008. We also request that the attending scholars bring these to India as they will be very handy to prepare before attending the academic sessions. For downloading, ISJS shall send the instructions to individual scholar. Other scholars, interested in downloading and studying these notes are welcome to contact svana@vsnl.com or scjain@earthlink.net for details.

New initiatives of ISSJS in India in the offing: ISJS India has identified three parts of India with significant Jain population, namely Bundelkhand (Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh), Indore and surrounding areas (MP), and Delhi and vicinity as the areas where significant anthropological studies have not been conducted so far. Most of the studies published overseas relate to Gujarat and western Rajasthan (partially Jaipur also).

ISJS India invites intention of interest from renowned Jain scholars in North America and Europe to send their proposals to conduct such studies and publish them in the form of books. ISJS India is mobilizing finances to cover the Indian expenses of the scholars along with providing field study staff for such studies. Please send your intent to the director ISJS India email svana@vsnl.com.

ISJS India is also planning to organize a series of seminars in India on subjects like Lifestyle issues and Jaina response, Socio-economic issue and Jaina response etc. Announcements shall be made in due course of time.
