Prospective Students
Admissions for ISSJS2009 are open now:
The ISSJS 2009 is structured around a two-tier system described below:
One month program ‘a’ for motivated and accomplished undergraduate and graduate students in philosophy, religion, South Asian studies, anthropology, theology etc who wish to learn about Jainism and take it up as a part of their graduate studies. This program is also designed to cater to the needs of full time faculty such as professors, instructors and PhD students in allied subjects like history, art, music, public health, bio-ethics, education, management etc. who wish to learn about Jainism and its relevance to their fields of interest and specialization.
Two months program ‘b’ for graduate students , PhD scholars, full time instructors and teaching faculty ( Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors) involved in religion, South Asian religions or studies, languages, anthropology, theology and allied subjects. In some cases, ISSJS organizers will also accept a few very bright and motivated undergraduate students in their final year of studies. Invariably all selected scholars enrolled in this program will get some sort of financial assistance from ISSJS. For details of the financial package, please see PROGRAM COSTS AND FINANCIAL AID
Admission office for these two programs is headed by Mr. Vatsa Kumar in Bay City, Texas USA. Both the programs are standalone and will be conducted separately from each other.
Special /Customized program ’c’ From 2009 onwards, ISSJS also proposes to offer a specialized one month program (different and separate from ‘a’ and ‘b’ above) for special interest groups, like University of Ottawa course number SRS4107. Scholars enrolled in this program can earn 3-6 credit hours from the University of Ottawa, Canada. Other universities like University of Ottawa can also apply to have specialized programs tailored to their specific needs. The only requirement is that a university / institution must have 12-14 students attending this program. Such programs will be coordinated by Dr. Shugan Jain Director ISSJS India.
The ISSJS 2009 will be the 5th ISSJS program. While in 2005 (the First ISSJS), we accepted only seven scholars, ISSJS 2008 had 35 students and scholars participating.
Thus ISSJS strives to meet the needs of interested and motivated applicants as much as our lodging and other infrastructure facilities will permit. In 2009, ISSJS proposes to limit the class size as follows:
