PROGRAM COSTS AND FINANCIAL AID
All U.S students accepted into the program will receive significant financial support to participate in this program. ISSJS invests heavily (approx US$ 8000 per scholar under program ‘a’ and US$ 3000 under program ‘b’ to ensure comprehensive coverage of Jain history, culture, philosophy and way of life with field visits and social interactions.
a. Two months program:
Undergraduate students, graduate students and scholars will have the following expenses covered by the ISSJS (the following applies to all students unless otherwise indicated):
- Program tuition fees
- Course materials (including required books)
- Graduates and scholars will have their international airfare to India paid for by ISSJS.
- All travel within country
- Undergraduate students will need to find external funding for their flight and intercity travel (Yatras) in India.
- Shared room and board in India during the ISSJS program
- Graduate students will receive a stipend of $1000 that will be distributed in two portions— 50% upon arrival in India and 50% upon completion of the program
- Assistant professor and lecturer participants will receive a $1,500 stipend and full professors a stipend of $2,000.
The program will not directly cover the following expenses (although participants can use the stipend however they see fit):
- Passport and visa application fees
- Travel insurance costs
- Travel within and outside of India not connected to the ISSJS program
- Medical supplies and treatments
- Personal Expenses: personal phone calls, faxes, internet, laundry, toiletries, entertainment, clothes, souvenirs additional books, travel, eating out etc.
b. One month program:
The attending scholars shall pay their own airfare and US$ 200 per scholar to cover land travel in India connected with the program. They will receive no stipend.
c. Scholars coming from countries other than North America.
Students and faculty from countries outside of this region (USA and Canada) are expected to independently cover their flight costs to and from India and any other additional money needed during their stay in India. Also they are not eligible for any stipend from ISJS.
General:
However, in all cases, the ISSJS will provide boarding, food, tuition and local travel expenses within (associated with ISSJS) India to all participants regardless of country of origin. Also they are not eligible for any stipend from ISSJS.
